What the jury said:
The idea submitted by Aryzta, a manufacturer of frozen goods, illustrates the interdependencies between packaging and the logistical material flow. The example here concerns transport packaging of doughnuts. Before this innovation, the filled trays had to be unpacked, labelled and repacked for the best before date to be labelled. This was undertaken by a service provider.
It has now been made possible to label the trays with the best before date directly in the outer carton. The outer carton has been modified by inserting a perforated tear-off flap. This completely eliminates the repackaging process. An improvement that impressed us very much in our judgement.
