What the jury said

The particular challenge with aluminium bottles for wine and wine-based drinks is to preserve and maintain the wine’s flavour over the storage period.

The sulphite contained in the wine is a particular difficulty here, as it can impair the wine’s sensory properties. Until now, it has been problematic to find an interior coating that does not affect the flavour of the wine and at the same time is also easy to process.

PPG and Tubex have jointly overcome this challenge with a new inner coating that is not only BPA-free, but also already complies with future EU directives.

The good workability of the varnish and its sensory and visually neutral effect in contact with wine are particularly noteworthy.

This innovation means that the aluminium bottle not only meets the required product protection standards, but is also approved for contact with food.

We congratulate PPG and Tubex on this achievement and are sure that this packaging will make an important contribution to improving the quality of wine in aluminium bottles.
