Tax Advisor, Manager Doradztwo Podatkowe WTS&SAJA Sp. z o.o.
Experts from the respective countries will explain for you the current status of the regulations in Germany, Spain, UK and Poland: Deadlines, plans, regulations, and ongoing discussions of the plastic levy in EU countries.
Background Since 1 January 2021, the European Union has levied a "plastic tax" on unrecycled plastic packaging waste. The levy is paid by the individual member states and accrues to the EU as own funds.
National implementation The individual states have freedom of action in "refinancing" the taxes paid. The money can, for example, come directly from the national budget or be passed on to producers and/or consumers through new national levies.
It turns out that national refinancing is indeed implemented in very different ways. While some countries are already preparing concrete legislative proposals to introduce a new plastic tax, others have announced that they do not want to introduce a new tax at all. In some member states, plastics have been taxed for decades.
