Sustainable packaging concepts are currently emerging in all areas of the FMCG industry. New packaging concepts for the frozen food sector are also being developed, which should appeal to buyers of organic products in particular. Hofmann Menü-Manufaktur GmbH (“The Green Manufacturer”) has succeeded in developing a menu tray that consists of over 95% certified cellulose, extracted from European spruce. The bowl lid, also made of cellulose, is sealed using a wafer-thin sealing wax coating. As a result, there is no need for typical plastic film coatings. Nevertheless, this packaging still offers optimum product protection and is suitable for moist contents. The menu tray’s heat resistance also means the contents can be prepared in the oven or microwave. Its high cellulose content means the packaging can even be composted (tested and confirmed according to DIN EN 13432). All in all, a real future-oriented and sustainable innovation for the frozen food sector.
