Kick off for the German Packaging Award 2026 - Wanted: the best innovations!

The largest European exhibition for packaging cordially invites you to participate: companies, institutions and individuals from home and abroad have until 23 May 2026 to submit their innovations and best solutions for the German Packaging Award. The award, organised by the German Packaging Institute (dvi), is decided by an independent jury of experts across all materials and sectors in ten categories. At a festive awards ceremony, the winning teams are presented with trophies, certificates, receive widespread attention, as well as the applause of the industry.

Load unit securing within the PPWR framework - dvi publishes guidance paper

From 12 August 2026 onwards, the new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) will gradually become binding and applicable in all EU member states. Among the new requirements that must be implemented by 2030 are reuse and minimum recycled content quotas for transport packaging, including strapping bands and flexible pallet wraps made of plastic and paper. Since the new regulations raise many questions and create uncertainties in the packaging industry, particularly regarding load unit securing, we have developed a guidance paper on load unit securing. The paper is available in German and English and summarizes the current regulatory requirements, existing challenges, and potential solutions.

Three Gold Awards at the German Packaging Award 2025

Centre stage and well-deserved applause for the very best: The German Packaging Institute (dvi) welcomed around 280 industry guests to celebrate the 37 winners of the 2025 German Packaging Award. The highlight of the event, held on the opening day of FACHPACK in Nuremberg, was the announcement of the Gold Awards, with which the jury additionally honoured three particularly groundbreaking innovations at Europe’s largest packaging showcase.

Over 200 submissions from 15 countries and three continents entered the race for the German Packaging Award 2025 across all materials. After thoroughly scrutinising every one of them, the independent jury of experts honoured 37 outstanding innovations with the coveted award. The German Packaging Institute (dvi), as the organiser of Europe’s largest packaging exhibition, congratulates all the winners and presents all the winning innovations on its website. The dvi cordially invites you to attend FACHPACK in Nuremberg on 23 September 2025 for the award ceremony and the announcement of the three Gold Awards.

dvi Packaging Academy launches certified Web-Based Training

As skills shortages intensify and professional standards continue to rise, high-quality education and professional development are becoming increasingly important — for both companies and individual career. In response, the Packaging Academy of the German Packaging Institute (dvi) is expanding its portfolio through a partnership with Clemson University (USA) to offer the modular online programme "Packaging School". This certified web-based training is designed for both newcomers and experienced professionals looking to deepen or expand their expertise. The eleven English-language modules can be booked individually or as a complete programme and offer flexible access in terms of time and location — with savings of up to 25 per cent.

The merry month of innovation! Companies, organisations and individuals from Germany and abroad still have until 31 May 2025 to submit their innovations and best solutions to Europe’s largest showcase for packaging. On 1 April 2025, Dr. Natalie Brandenburg will take over as Managing Director of the German Packaging Institute (dvi). Five Gold Awards at the German Packaging Award 2024

The first day of FACHPACK in Nuremberg showcased the big stage for major innovations. The German Packaging Institute (dvi) organised the award ceremony and, together with more than 380 guests from the industry, celebrated the 41 winning innovations at this year’s German Packaging Award. The moment everyone was waiting for at this special industry event was the announcement of the five Gold Awards. The independent German Packaging Award jury hands out these Gold Awards to honour particularly ground-breaking innovations that stand out even from this illustrious circle of 41 packaging award winners. This time, gold went to outstanding solutions in the categories of Digitalisation, Functionality & Convenience, Sustainability and Packaging Machines.

Wow factor: 41 winners of the German Packaging Award 2024

The 27 independent members of the German Packaging Award jury certainly had their work cut out: Almost 250 submissions from 13 countries flooded in to the German Packaging Institute e.V. (dvi), the organiser of Europe’s largest packaging exhibition, to be individually assessed and evaluated. In the end, 41 innovations in 10 categories were honoured with the prestigious and long-established award. The dvi is thrilled to see so much class at the top and across the board – and cordially invites the industry to the awards ceremony and the announcement of the Gold Awards at FACHPACK.
