Paper-based tear tape

Jury evaluation:

The conventional combination of a polypropylene or polyester packaging aid used on a packaging material was substituted by a paper-based and 100% plastic-free tear tape in this award-winning submission. A paper that offers particularly good tensile and tear strength whilst being as thin as possible was used to achieve the required stability. Another requirement was that the substrate also had to tolerate being coated with a self-adhesive material.

The jurors were impressed by the ecological benefits, recyclability and functionality of this mono-material solution as well as the packaging’s overall discreet appearance. This solution will find applications not only in shipping packaging, but also in the non-food and food sectors.
